'Back To The Future 4' Release Date Imminent? Original Cast Christopher Lloyd Teases Possibility

Nov 05, 2015 09:37 PM EST | By Sherylyn Toda

Following the anniversary of the "Back To The Future 2" scene where the Nike "power laced" shoes and hoverboard debuted during Marty McFly's (Michael J. Fox) visit in 2015, talks about a possible "Back To The Future 4" release date grew rampant.

While Universal Pictures has yet to announce anything about the possible sequel to the classic film, Christopher Lloyd, who played the famous Doctor Emmet Brown expressed his thoughts about it.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 77-year-old actor said that he would be delighted to reprise his role as Doc again.

"I would love to do Doc again, no question," the actor exclaimed. "[But] it's tough to come up with an idea that contains the excitement of the original three."

And while it would be exciting to see "Back to the Future 4" in the big screen, the release date could come as a challenge, with Lloyd noting how the original stars have significantly aged since the third film came out in 1990.

"So it would be a real challenge for the writers to come up with an original Back To The Future story that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three," he said. "But it could be done, you never know."

Meanwhile, Lea Thompson, who played Marty McFly's mother Lorraine Baines McFly, granted an interview with The Toronto Sun saying that she'd also be excited if Universal would decide to push through with fourth sequel.

"It's surreal thinking about something I did a long time ago," Thompson said about a possible "Back To The Future 4" release date. "It's kind of weird, but it's nice."

"Age makeup is kind painful, and it's strange to act in because if you move your face too much you tear it, and if you tear it you ruin the whole day."

"It's a different time to be older now," she added. "I'm sitting here basically wearing the same dress my daughter would wear. I've got the same hair my daughter would wear. We can get away with that stuff."

If asked to return and reprise her role, Thompson claimed that she would no doubt come back.

"If they were making it and they were asking, I'd be interested," she said.

Now that the original cast have expressed their desire for a "Back to the Future 4" movie, a release date could indeed be happening soon.
