'Final Fantasy 7' Remake On Nintendo NX? Cloud Strife On 'Super Smash Bros.' Prompt Speculation

After it was announced that "Final Fantasy 7's" Cloud Strife will appear on "Super Smash Bros," speculations came up that the remake is headed to the Nintendo's NX console.

Last week, IGN reported "FF7's" main man will be featured in "Super Smash Bros." as a playable fighter for the 3DS and Wii U.

Reportedly, "Cloud comes complete with limit breaks, an Odin summon, and even an alternate costume based on his 'Advent Children' look."

Many were surprised with the announcement, including Nintendo Enthusiast. The website recalled how Square Enix and Nintendo "haven't had the greatest relationship" since the developer partnered with Sony "during the PS1/N64 years."

While some of Square Enix's games were made available for Nintendo's consoles, the main "Final Fantasy" franchise never did reach them.

Recently, NE said Square hinted at bringing "Dragon Quest XI" and "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" to the NX. While far from being a confirmation, "it certainly seems like Square is actively looking into bringing some of their games to the NX," the website said.

So far, the "Final Fantasy 7" remake has been confirmed for Sony's PS4, but as a "first" and not an exclusive, as NE pointed out. Back in July, Franchise Herald reported of a possibility of an Xbox One port.

NE takes Cloud's appearance in "Super Smash Bros." as further proof that Nintendo and Square Enix are "working together to bring titles to the NX," which may include the "FF7" remake.

The two company's improved relationship means "it makes sense for one of the Square Enix flagship games to finally make the jump back to the company that made them famous," iDigitalTimes said.

The website thinks Cloud Strife in "SSB" is "a promising sign" that "gives us something to hope for.

At this point though, the "Final Fantasy 7" remake hasn't been confirmed for other platforms.
