Release Date Of 'Back To The Future 4' Could Still Happen Even Without Michael J. Fox?

Nov 16, 2015 12:25 PM EST | By Sherylyn Toda

26 years following the debut of the first Nike "power laced" shoes and hoverboard during Marty McFly's (Michael J. Fox) visit in 2015, is it possible to have a "Back to the Future 4" release date?

Many fans of the classic movie series are asking for it, however Universal Pictures nor main cast Michael J. Fox have yet to comment about it.

Christopher Lloyd, who played the famous Doctor Emmet Brown has however expressed his excitement if a "Back to the Future 4" will indeed happen.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 77-year-old veteran actor glady talked about the possibility of him playing Doc again for the fourth time.

"I would love to do Doc again, no question," the actor exclaimed. "[But] it's tough to come up with an idea that contains the excitement of the original three."

But while it would be interesting for the new generation to see "Back to the Future 4," the release date could be challenging, with Lloyd noting how the stars have aged already since the release of its last installment in 1990.

"So it would be a real challenge for the writers to come up with an original Back To The Future story that has the same passion and intensity and excitement as the other three," he said. "But it could be done, you never know."

Lea Thompson, who played Marty McFly's mother Lorraine Baines McFly, on the other hand, told The Toronto Sun that if ever Universal Studio would push through with the sequel, it would be a challenge for the actors as well.

"It's surreal thinking about something I did a long time ago," Thompson said about a possible "Back To The Future 4" release date. "It's kind of weird, but it's nice."

"Age makeup is kind painful, and it's strange to act in because if you move your face too much you tear it, and if you tear it you ruin the whole day."

"It's a different time to be older now," she added. "I'm sitting here basically wearing the same dress my daughter would wear. I've got the same hair my daughter would wear. We can get away with that stuff."

If asked to return and reprise her role, Thompson claimed that she would no doubt come back.

"If they were making it and they were asking, I'd be interested," she said.
