New American Airlines Opens Up Rewards Travel Program For U.S. Airways and Original American Airlines Customers

US Airways and American Airlines enabled passengers to log in to their rewards account online, and airport lounges Tuesday in anticipation of the two airlines officially becoming the new American Airlines in two years The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

"Our customers are ready to reap the benefits of our merger and we are pleased they'll get to experience these perks they value most so early in the integration process," Scott Kirby, president of American Airlines told The Times.

Passengers can gain and obtain miles when using either airline The Times reported. Special services like priority boarding, and no fees for checking luggage is also available.

The airlines are combining code-sharing agreements next so passengers can use both travel carriers to purchase tickets. Ticket counters will also be transformed to represent the new American Airlines.

The new airline will have six thousand seven hundred daily flights to 339 destinations in 54 countries The Times reported.

The airline signed an agreement with Embraer which called for 60 Embraer E175 type aircraft with options for a maximum of 90 American said in press release. The airline has already made confirmations for 30 Bombardier CRJ900 regional jets, and could get a maximum of 40 more if it chooses.

A bankruptcy court judge authorized a lawsuit settlement for the acquisition last month, and the former American Airlines came out of bankruptcy protection.

The two airlines will also now give up stations at Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport, in a move that will decrease the company's departures 15 percent. Stations will also be vacated at New York's La Guardia for a seven percent slash.

The airlines will also move from two gates at Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, and Miami, and keep their main bases for a minimum of three years. Operations will also continue in Virginia, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee for a minimal five year period.
