‘Final Fantasy 7’ Remake To Use Unreal Engine 4; PS4 Port Gets iOS Cheats But That’s Not Bad

The "Final Fantasy 7" remake's episodic release announcement is still a bit of a mystery but one thing about the game has been confirmed. Square Enix said it's being developed using Unreal Engine 4.

"We realize how special 'Final Fantasy VII' is to fans, and we place our trust in Unreal Engine 4 technology and tools to help deliver this long-awaited remake, crafted for modern platforms," Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase said in a statement.

Speaking on their collaboration, Epic Games Japan's Taka Kawasaki said, "We're humbled that Square Enix has chosen Unreal Engine 4 to recreate one of the world's most beloved video games of all time."

"It is a joy to work with the talented developers behind the franchise, and this marks an unforgettable moment in Unreal Engine history," he added.

Back in Aug, Franchise Herald reported the "Final Fantasy 7" remake won't use "FFXV's" Luminous Engine. Speculation then was that UE4 will be used instead.

Forbes praised Square Enix's decision and called it a "smart move" because UE4 "is both a versatile and powerful engine with a very mature tool set."

"The latter is an important point, as most gamers focus on the graphical side of things but it's the quality of the tool set that makes the most difference in development."

Amidst all the big updates on the "Final Fantasy 7" remake, the original game's PS4 port has finally rolled out. Just as the iOS port launched earlier this year, the game's next-gen console iteration also comes with built-in cheats.

According to Kotaku, players can turn off random encounters, speed up the game and automatically heal everyone and give them unlimited limit breaks by pressing the thumbsticks.

But the website thinks the first two cheats aren't bad. The first one can be used to make exploration easier while using the second one means players won't have to invest as much time in the game.

"With just these two simple tools, 'Final Fantasy Vii' has transformed from semi-antiquated to a genuinely great use of your time in 2015."
