Airbus's 1,619 total orders for 2013 puts the airplane maker at the top of the jumbo jet industry, and ahead of Boeing.

Final order numbers tallied 1,503 when cancellations were included, up 80 compared to 2012's The Telegraph reported.

"The transformation of our company into a simpler, more agile and faster one is clearly taking shape," Fabrice Bregier, president and CEO at Airbus said in a statement at a yearly press conference in Toulouse, France The Telegraph reported.

Airbus was short of deliveries however with 626 compared to Boeing's 648 The Telegraph reported.

"These benchmark results are feeding nicely into our profitability targets," John Leahy, sales chief at Airbus told Reuters. "We cannot continue at this level (of orders), but what we are doing is continuing to increase production," Leahy told Reuters.

Airbus saw 1,253 orders for A320 aircrafts, and 876 for the company's neo or more environmentally-friendly aircrafts with fuel efficient engines The Telegraph reported.

Seventy-seven orders were for A330s. Emirates Airlines also requested 50 A380's according to information from Wire Update.

Big discounts from makers of the aircraft brought the price down from $20.2 billon. The agreement now brings Emirates Airbus A380's to 140.

One hundred and twenty-two A380's have been distributed to ten upscale airlines Wire Update reported. The jet travels 8,500 miles or 15,700 kilometers without stopping. More people are able to fly for reduced fares, and in ways that are not as harmful to the environment.

Cathay Pacific Airways has ordered 21 Boeing 777x aircrafts for $7.5 billion Wire Update reported. The plane is expected to be sent to those who put orders in between 2021 and 2024.
