Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles Recall: 1.77 Million Pulled Back For Incorrect Labeling; Allergic Substance

The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service recalled 1.77 million pounds of pasta and meat products because of incorrect labeling, and an allergen Sunday.

"The problem was discovered during a recent routine quality check conducted by the company, which then contacted FSIS," the service said in the recall information. "The company believes the problem occurred when a label supplier inadvertently mixed labels with incorrect ingredient lines with labels containing correct ingredient information," the commission said in the recall information.

The recall includes 3.3 pound cases with six, nine ounce microwavable containers of Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles - ultimate cheeseburger the service said in the recall information.

The items were made from May 6, 2013, and Jan. 16 the recall information said. The food has case codes including 00210000432900, 00210000432910, 00210000432925, 00210000464000 and 00210000465100. The packages were sent to Kraft Foods warehouses and sotres throughout the country the recall information reported.

Those with questions can call Kraft Foods Consumer Relations Center at 1-800-396-5512 the service said in the recall information.

The FSIS's virtual representative, Ask Karen, is also on call 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov. The feature can also be accessed on smartphones at m.askkaren.gov.

She is also available for live chats Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. eastern time.

Another option includes the toll-free USDA meat and poultry hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in English and Spanish.

Kraft Foods is experiencing a cheese shortage due to high demand Advertising Age reported Jan. 6. A store in Brooklyn, N.Y., previously said they would not receive any more of the cheese product until February Advertising Age reported.

Kraft has made Velveeta Mac and Cheese for the past 86 years USA Today reported. It is used in grilled cheese sandwiches, and casseroles. The product has brought in over $500 million for Kraft USA Today reported.
