‘The Force Awakens’ On Facebook: New 'Star Wars' Filter Allows Users To Have Lightsabers!

Dec 16, 2015 09:46 AM EST | By Joanna Garado

Facebook has been experimenting with filters on profile photos and since it's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" season, the social media giant wasted no time in allowing its users to jump in on the excitement over the film franchise.

Now, users may use a new Facebook profile photo filter that would enable them to appear like they were holding a lightsaber.

Facebook users may choose between Finn's blue lightsaber or Kylo Ren's red lightsaber, Metro reported. The lightsaber's position may also be adjusted so it would coincide with any profile picture's background or the subject's angle in the photo, making the whole thing appear convincing.

And if users get tired of the lightsabers (maybe in 20 years because who gets tired of lightsabers?), they may revert to the original photo within a time, hour, week or month that the user has set.

Facebook users simply have to click on the photos below, which will take them to the Star Wars Facebook page. On the original posts, click the "try it" button. There, they may choose between the red and blue lightsabers, changes its position and then set their finished work as profile picture.

The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Facebook filter comes after the Paris filter, which was a show of solidarity over the recent terrorist attacks on Paris, France which killed 132 people. The Facebook filter for Paris allowed users to change their profile photos to the colors of the French flag.

The said Facebook filter drew flak after people questioned why the social media site did not offer the same filter option for countries like Syria and Palestine, which had suffered hundreds and thousands of terrorist attacks over the past year.

Facebook users accused the website of "selective outrage," "selective sympathy" and "selective humanity."
