Boeing Next-Generation 737: 42 Planes A Month Production Rate Begins Wednesday

Manufacturing on Boeing's 737 Next-Generation aircraft begins Wednesday Boeing said in a press release Tuesday.

"This rate increase once again reflects our commitment to put the world's best-selling airplane into the hands of our customers as quickly as possible," Beverly Wyse, Boeing vice president and program general manager, said in a statement. "Efficiency improvements in the factory, many of them developed by our employees, are a big part of why we are able to successfully increase the number of airplanes we build," Wyse said in the statement.

The company will make 42 planes a month, a number that has gone up from 31.5 or 33 percent dating back to 2010, and is considered the biggest amount the company has ever done any of its planes during a specific time a press release reported.

Workers will put the aircraft's main parts of the jetliner's spars or its wings internal support structures in an electronic assembly machine Wednesday.

Boeing expects to complete and send off its first 737 Next-Generation plane during the next fiscal quarter.

Boeing anticipates distributing 715 to 725 airplanes this year, different from 648 in 2013 The Los Angeles Times reported.

Boeing also plans to make 47 737 airplanes each month beginning in 2017 the press release reported.

Boeing brought in $86.62 billion in revenue in 2013.

"We successfully delivered on our strategies to convert our record backlog into profitable growth, executed well on commercial and defense development programs and drove productivity and affordability gains throughout our business and enterprise functions," Jim McNerney, CEO at Boeing told The Times last week.

Boeing brought in $1.23 billion in earnings or $1.61 a share in the fourth fiscal quarter The Times reported.

The numbers are a 26 percent increase compared to $978 million, or $1.28 in 2013 The Times reported. Boeing's total income went up seven percent or $23.79 billion.
