Mississippi Awakes in Body Bag at Funeral Home, Was Previously Announced Dead

A Mississippi man was found conscious and moving in a body bag Central Mississippi television station WAPT reported Friday.

Staff at Porter and Sons Funeral Home in Lexington, Miss. found Walter Williams who startled several visitors with his sudden motion in what is believed to be from a malfunctioning pacemaker WAPT reported.

"I asked the coroner what happened, and the only thing he could say is that it's a miracle," Willie March Sherriff for Holmes County central Mississippi told central Mississippi television station WAPT.

A coroner reportedly took Williams pulse at 9 p,m. Wednesday, and initially announced his death in his Lexington residence WAPT reported. Williams was then taken to the funeral home where employees were preparing to preserve William's body until he began shifting in the bag.

"I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up," Eddie Hester, a nephew of Williams told WAPT.

Williams was then immediately taken to the hospital

"That was at 10:30, and at 2:30, my cousin called me and said, 'Not yet and I said, 'What you mean not yet? Daddy still here," Hester told WAPT.

Hester is one of the many people relieved Williams regained consciousness and is still living WAPT reported.

"I don't know how long he's going to be here, but I know he's back right now. That's all that matters," Hester told WAPT.

"The mortician said something wasn't right," says Williams' daughter, Martha Lewis, Williams' daughter told South Carolina television station WBTW "His leg started moving."

"Seemed like he had more life in him again," Lewis told WBTW. "And then we had just stopped talking, and he told us 'what did you all stop talking for?' Hallelujah, thank you, Jesus!"

Williams is a veteran farmer and has been on the local school board WAPT reported.
