Pizza Hut Interactive Table App: Technology Could Allow Customers to Order Digitally

Pizza Hut's new car pizza ordering concept could allow customers to enter their menu choices online.

Pizza is creating its own app that is more like a digital table resembling one on a normal size tablet just in time for Saturday's start to the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas Nation's Restaurant News reported Wednesday.

The franchise pizza chain is evaluating the response when customers can select how big they want their pizza to be, the same way they slide to access apps on their smartphones, and choose what toppings they want by using a digital menu Nation's Restaurant News reported Monday.

"This is in concept stage at the moment, but as we continue to push for more technology to make the experience with our stores even better, this is one of those ideas we really like," Doug Terfer, a spokesman for Pizza Hut told Nation's Restaurant News in an e-mail.

The new digs would be implemented in Pizza Hut's 4,000 locations, however nothing is set in stone for putting it in all of the company's restaurants.

"The post-order gaming experience is a bit of a nod to the legendary games like 'Pac-Man' and 'Centipede' that so many people remember being in our restaurants. The only difference is the new ones will be available right at your table," Terfer told Nation's Restaurant News.

The system also allows consumers to compete at games, they might be used to from the restaurants previous features.

"The interactive experience will be a lot of fun. "Adding toppings, taking away toppings, changing sizes, playing games - all of those things are at the controls of you, the user. It's a lot like ordering via an app on your phone on the table right there in front of you," Terfehr told Nation's Restaurant News.

Pizza has over 6,200 restaurants throughout the United States.
