American Airlines receipt of over $425 million to have spaces at Reagan National Airport and LaGuardia Airport with U.S. Airways USA Today reported Monday.

American also obtained $381 million for 34 spaces to ascend and descend at LaGuardia, and 104 at Reagan National. American also got 24 spaces at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

"This amount was quite a bit higher than the appraised value (of) those slots. We are pleased with the result," the airline said in a statement USA Today reported.

The opposition called for inexpensive airlines such as JetBlue, Southwest, and Virgin America to take over spaces at both airports in an attempt to provide the airlines the opportunity to make more of a name for themselves.

"The United States continues to believe that the remedy it obtained ... will address the competitive harm alleged in this action and is plainly in the public interest,'' the government said in the court filing USA Today reported.

American and U.S. Airways gave up stations at Washington D.C.'s Reagan National Airport, in a move that will decrease the company's departures 15 percent as part of the merger the Associated Press reported. Stations will also be vacated at New York's La Guardia for a seven percent slash.

Both airlines vacated many gates at the airports to finalize a case before negotiations of an acquisition to merge could end. The deal did so December.

The airlines also moves from two gates at Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Boston, and Miami, and keep their main bases for a minimum of three years. Operations will also continue in Virginia, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee for a minimal five year period the AP reported. Employees from both airlines will be implemented over the next two years.
