T-Mobile Ends Overage Charges, Company's CEO Encourages Others to Do Same

T-Mobile CEO John Legere announced the end to overages on the mobile carrier and is encouraging others to do the same Time reported Monday.

"Today I'm laying down a challenge to AT&T, Verizon and Sprint to join T-Mobile in ending these outrageous overage penalties for all consumers - because it's the right thing to do," John Legere CEO at T-Mobile said in a statement Time reported.

"Charging overage fees is a greedy, predatory practice that needs to go. Starting in May for bills arriving in June - regardless of whether you're on Simple Choice, Simple Starter or an older plan, we're abolishing overages for good. Period," Legere said in the statement Time reported.

"With any big change that's ever led to any lasting good, somebody's got to first stand up and point out a wrong. And it doesn't hurt if that "somebody" is loud enough and brash enough that they're hard to ignore. I can do that," Legere said in an article on multimedia capsule.

Monday's news is T-Mobile's next step in attempt to what it feels is needed in the mobile device industry.

One facet of the changeover is unveiling of simple starter plans which hit the market Saturday and are available for $40 a month the company said in a press release Wednesday.

The plan gives consumers unlimited talk and text, a maximum 500 megabytes of data, and tethering or when a smartphone is used as a wireless router.

According to the press release the plan is also meant for small businesses who prefer mobile devices that fall within their budget, and are easy to become familiar with the press release reported.

The option is also the only one of its kind out on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network, which is the only one that has it available.

Legere set up a petition on change.org.
