Gluten Free Blueberry Pancakes for potential allergy risk

American Waffle Company is recalling 480 cases of Gluten Free Blueberry Pancakes because the product contains undeclared milk which may be harmful to those with milk allergies and consume the product.In a statement released Monday, the company they recalled 14.4 oz. Live-G-free Gluten Free Blueberry Pancakes were distributed in 15 states. That included Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missourit, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The product is marked with Best By or Sell By 07/31/15 on the top or bottom panel. If you've purchased this product, the company advises that you throw it out and go back to ALDI for a full refund. The recalled packages contain 12 pancakes in a 14-ounce box with the universal product code 4970571120.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may be at risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. The company said one illness was reported. Food allergies involve the body's immune system, which normally fights infection. When someone is allergic to a particular food, the immune system overreacts to proteins in that food.

Although it's not common, milk allergies can cause a severe reaction called anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis may begin with some of the same symptoms as a less severe reaction, but then quickly worsen. A person might have trouble breathing, feel lightheaded, or pass out. If it's not treated, anaphylaxis can be life threatening.
