After a hard-fought and exciting game, Gilas emerged victorious over Team Senegal with a score of 81-79 at an overtime thriller at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Even with a formidable team like Senegal, Team Gilas - led by their captain Jimmy Alapag, still gained an astonishing win last September 4, 2014 at Sevilla, Spain. Paul Lee's back-to-back three point shots plus Japeth Aguilar's monstrous two-hand dunk not only added points to their score but also wowed the audience witnessing the game with their outstanding skill and ability in handling and shooting the ball.

With Gilas out of the series, Filipino basketball fans are still proud of our National Team as they have showed their will and determination to win the game for their country and fellow Filipinos. This triumphant win marks an important milestone as it is the Philippines' first World Cup victory after 40 years.

According to NBA Philippines, Gilas didn't want to go home empty handed even if they were already eliminated from the knockout round. NBA Philippines tweeted, "Gilas Pilipinas is out of contention but they will try to salvage a win before their World Cup campaign ends today. #LabanPilipinas #PUSO"

On the same day, as fans raved about Gilas' captain Alapag - who led the team to victory, YahooPH updated it's official Twitter account with the news that it will be Alapag's last game before he puts his Gilas uniform to rest.
