The Queen Of Comedy, Joan Rivers Dies At The Age of 81 Due to A Cardiac Arrest

After 50 years in the industry, the Queen of Comedy, Joan Rivers passed away due to a cardiac arrest at Mount Sinai hospital last Thursday, reports say. Her daughter Melissa, was the first to inform the public about her mother’s passing.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers," Melissa Rivers said in a written statement Thursday. "She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

According to Melissa, she and her son Cooper have found themselves humbled by the outpouring love, support and prayers they have received from all over the world. “They are very much appreciated,” she added, “my mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon."

The loss of the comic legend has affected most people in Hollywood and has expressed their grief and extended their condolences through social networking site, Twitter including Kathy Griffin whom she mentored; Donald Trump, Martha Stewart and Larry King whom she considered great friends; fellow comedians Whoopi Goldberg and Bette Midler; other celebrities such as Samuel L. Jackson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Kendrick as well as TV host Ellen Degeneres.

According to the reports of ABC News, Joan Rivers died due to a cardiac arrest during a routine procedure. There is no evidence of foul play but the police will be investigating the whole situation.
