The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie raked in $232,617,430 when it was shown on theaters in 2011. This is from a budget of $90 million. This mystery thriller, which is based on the novel of the same name by Swedish writer Stieg Larson, starred Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. It is about the story of journalist Mikael Blomkvist who was investigating the disappearance of a woman from a rich clan.

With its success and cult following, many thought that there will be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie sequel. However, after director David Fincher expressed his interest to adapt the second and third installment of the novel, namely The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, people stop hearing from him. Hopes of seeing the sequel officially faded when EW reported in 2012 that the screenplay for the adaptation is not yet finished.

To the fans of the film and the novel, looks like the tide has turned. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie sequel will push through, after all.

In an interview with Swedish site Afton Bladet (via Film Divider, which provided translation), director David Fincher hinted that production for The Girl Who Played with Fire film might happen.

"I think because [Sony] already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script so it will result in something," he said.

"The script that we now have a huge potential, I can reveal as much as it is extremely different from the book.”

Right now, Fincher is busy promoting another novel-turned motion picture project, Gone Girl. Rooney Mara is set to star in musical feature film called Ziggy while doing works for Carol and Untitled Terrence Malick Project. As for Daniel Craig, the modern James Bond is not busy as he only has Bond 24 in his movie line-up.

Barring any setback, we might indeed see a The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Movie sequel because of the key people’s not so tight schedules.
