Wal-Mart Discovers False Resume Information, Leads To Chief Spokesman's Resignation

Wal-Mart Stores Inc, America's retail giant, recently discovered that their chief spokesperson, David Tovar, provided false information on his resume.

David Tovar was Wal-Mart's Vice President of Communications. He joined the team last 2006 after working for Altria Group Inc. Tovar's responsibilities included managing the company's communication to the public on various affairs such as the company's suatinability and more notably, the company's alleged violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Just this February, his responsibilities extended to communication across all of its onshore business.

According to sources, Tovar's resume states that he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Delaware last 1996. The retail giant discovered the resume's anomaly after conducting due diligence on their employee's educational background. The records official from University of Delaware confirmed to Bloomberg news that Tovar, 40, did not get the diploma and was discontinued last 1996. Tovar has not issued any statements regarding the issue.

David Tovar announced his resignation last week. Per Tovar, "It's been an amazing experience" working for eight years in Wal-Mart. The company has not yet made an announcement on who will be replacing the role of Tovar.

Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation that operates a number of department stores and warehouse stores. The company was founded by Sam Walton last 1962 and its headquarters is in Bentonville, Arkansas. It is considered as the world's biggest public corporation and currently has over 11,000 stores in 27 countries.

The retail giant is a family owned business and is controlled by the Walton family. The family own s50 percent of the company through Walton Enterprises, their holding company. It is considered to be the largest grocery retailer in the United States.  Walmart also provides an e-commerce platform which allows its customers to do their purchases online. Roughly 40 percent of Walmart's products are store brands produced through the company's contracts with several manufacturers.
