On January 12, Donavan Everett, president and owner of D.A. Everett Construction Group, and the Charlotte Hornets' executive team unveiled their plan to refurbish Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

WBTV reports that the "Reimagine Spectrum Center" project aims to modernize the arena significantly. The upgrades include adding 2,500 seats on the lower level, enhancing concourses and breezeways, and revamping club spaces and dining areas.

In the upcoming renovations, Spectrum Center will see the addition of new gathering areas, offering better views into the arena. Key areas like the Dr. Pepper Pavilion and The Nest fan section are set to be revamped, introducing fresh amenities unique to the venue.

The arena will soon feature a variety of new suites and an enhanced concession experience for visitors.

Additionally, upgrades to the back-of-house areas are planned to provide better facilities for teams, promoters, arena staff, and entertainers.

The renovation will begin in May 2024, with completion expected by May 2025.

Donna Julian, Executive VP of Hornets Sports & Entertainment, expressed excitement about the renovation. She emphasized that the project will transform Spectrum Center, making it a top venue for sports and entertainment in the Carolinas and attracting more significant events to downtown Charlotte.

For this once-in-a-lifetime project, Everett collaborated with Turner Construction, known for its large-scale projects and enhancing fan experiences. Turner Construction's notable work includes the 2017 refurbishment of the 400,000-square-foot State Farm Arena.

Everett described the renovation as an exhilarating high-profile opportunity, highlighting the project's significance for his company and the community.

Donovan Everett's journey in the construction industry began in childhood, influenced by his father, a general contractor. He graduated from N.C. State in 2003 with a business management degree and later earned a healthcare construction certificate.

In 2013, Everett founded D.A. Everett Construction Group. The company quickly gained recognition for managing major renovation projects for clients such as Novant Health, Bojangles Coliseum, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department precincts.

D.A. Everett Construction Group, licensed in North Carolina, South Carolina, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, has established a robust presence in the industry. Last year, Everett moved both his family and the company's headquarters to Charlotte.

This relocation proved fruitful, as the Charlotte Business Journal soon recognized the firm as one of the city's prominent Black-owned businesses.

With over two decades of experience, Everett aims to leave a significant mark on Charlotte's construction scene. Speaking to QCity Metro, he expressed his eagerness to engage with the community and support people, particularly those with his background.

Everett is particularly excited about the Spectrum Center renovations, believing they will elevate the fan experience. He assured QCity Metro of the venue's bright future: "Whether it's concerts, basketball, or other events, Spectrum Center will be the premier destination."
