In a surprising turn of events, Outback Steakhouse has decided to shut down all its Hawaii restaurants. This sudden announcement has left many of its employees in shock.

According to reports from the staff, they were only informed about the closure two days before the company closed its final three outlets in the state. This abrupt decision by Outback Steakhouse has affected employees and regular customers, who did not anticipate such a quick closure of these popular dining spots.

Outback Steakhouse Closes Three Hawaii Locations

The Australian-themed casual dining chain Outback Steakhouse has recently shut down its Kapolei, Waipahu, and Kailua-Kona restaurants. This closure occurred on February 18, as the local ABC affiliate KITV reported.

Sheryl Matsuoka, the executive director of the Hawaii Restaurant Association, confirmed the shutdown of these locations. In a statement to Fox affiliate KHON-TV, Matsuoka expressed her surprise at the news, highlighting the challenges faced by the restaurant industry.

"The Outback brand has decided to pull out of Hawaii, which is extremely regrettable," Matsuoka said. "The closure of these three locations is a big loss. Rising operational costs are making it very difficult for restaurants to stay afloat. Despite efforts to keep going, the profit margins are just too slim."

"With the rising costs of food, utilities, and wages, it's becoming increasingly difficult for restaurants to stay in business," Matsuoka explained.

She noted that many eateries across the state are experiencing similar struggles due to these escalating expenses. Matsuoka emphasized the crucial role of community support for the survival of local restaurants.

"The restaurants in Hawaii need the support of our communities," Matsuoka urged. She also mentioned that sales during Valentine's Day were not as strong as in previous years. "We're hoping people will show their support by dining in, ordering takeout, and frequenting local eateries. They need our help now more than ever."

Employees at various Outback Steakhouse locations in Hawaii have expressed dismay over the abrupt notification of the restaurant's closure. Reports indicate that the staff were informed about the shutdown just a day before it was set to happen.

Vanessa Glosson, who works at the Kailua-Kona branch, shared her disappointment about the short notice. "It's sad that we weren't told earlier. Many of us could have started looking for other jobs," Glosson remarked.

In light of the imminent closure, an Outback manager has advised customers with unused gift cards to use them promptly before the restaurants permanently close in Hawaii. For further assistance, gift card holders are directed to contact the Hawaii Restaurant Association, with the contact number provided on the back of the cards.

Wanda Wernar, a staff member at the Waipio location, also commented on the sudden announcement. "We only learned this morning that we'd be closing in two days," Wernar stated on February 17, highlighting the unexpected nature of the closure.

Meanwhile, Outback Steakhouse's imminent closure in Hawaii has evoked sadness among its customers and the local community. With the final day of business approaching, the restaurant has announced, "Tonight's dinner service and tomorrow's operations will be our last."
