Many people have been discussing a new DG Market store opening on the east side of Augusta. Dollar General's Media Department has now shared the real story with us to clear up any confusion for the community.

New DG Market: A Fresh Shopping Experience

A Dollar General spokesperson has announced that a new DG Market store is expected to open in late spring 2024. However, the spokesperson also mentioned that the construction schedule might change this opening date.

The spokesperson also explained how the DG Market differs from the usual Dollar General stores. The DG Market will focus on selling food. It will have a wide variety of fresh produce, refrigerated and frozen foods, and fresh meats.

This is in addition to the usual items Dollar General is known for, such as food, health and beauty products, cleaning supplies, home goods, stationery, seasonal items, and basic clothes.

They emphasized that customers can expect to find high-quality products, whether it's a DG Market or a traditional Dollar General store.

These include both well-known national brands and Dollar General's brands. Some big-name brands at their stores include Clorox, Proctor & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg's, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo, and Coca-Cola.

DG Market Boosts Jobs and Education

The spokesperson shared that the new DG Market plans to hire about 10 to 15 employees, depending on the store's needs. Dollar General seeks people to join its team and offers good pay, benefits, and training. There are also chances for employees to grow in their careers within the company.

People interested in these jobs can apply online at Dollar General's website.

The story doesn't stop with job opportunities. The Dollar General representative highlighted the company's effort to support education in its communities. Through the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Dollar General gives money to non-profit groups, schools, and libraries close to its stores or distribution centers.

This money helps fund programs for reading and education for people of all ages, helping over 19.6 million people start their journey in education and continue learning."

Meanwhile, a new Dollar General store is set to open in North Augusta, causing mixed feelings among residents. The store will be located on Edgefield Road at the corner of Trailside Drive, within Edgefield County but still part of the North Augusta community.

Construction is underway, but it remains unclear which road will face the front of the store. This Dollar General will be approximately 2 1/2 miles from an existing store near North Augusta's Food Lion at 195 Market Place Drive, with another store about 6 miles away at 2494 Edgefield Road in Trenton.

Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of the new store, particularly regarding traffic safety in the area. The vicinity is known for its traffic challenges, especially during the school season due to the proximity to Fox Creek High School. The lack of a traffic light and complicated intersection angles at Trailside Drive and Short Cut Road contribute to visibility issues and accidents.

Community members are worried that the new Dollar General could exacerbate these traffic safety issues, highlighting the need for careful planning and consideration of the store's placement and impact on local infrastructure.
