A customer of the grocery chain Kroger has voiced their disappointment over the store's meat recipe, claiming it was better before. The shopper shared their frustration on social media platform X, sparking user conversation.

Customer Pleads for Return of Old Recipe

"Please change the recipe of your fried chicken back," a customer pleaded in a social media message directed at Kroger. They strongly disapproved of the grocery chain's new double-battered fried chicken, labeling it "disgusting" and reminiscing about the superior taste of the old recipe, which they described as tasting homemade.

Kroger responded to the customer's critique with a message of appreciation for the feedback.

"So sorry for any concerns. We have shared your feedback regarding the new taste of the Deli Fried Chicken with our quality teams for review," Kroger's account replied, indicating that the company is taking the customer's concerns seriously and has forwarded them to the relevant departments for consideration.

In January 2024, Kroger revealed its plan to enhance the quality of several items in its deli and bakery sections. The improvements are part of a larger effort to offer better products to their customers.

Among the upgraded items are the Home Chef-branded fried chicken products, known for their popularity among shoppers.

Alongside these savory improvements, Kroger is also introducing new versions of several sweet treats, adding a touch of indulgence to its bakery offerings. Additionally, the grocery chain is set to launch a new baguette, promising a fresh and delicious option for bread lovers.

Kroger has introduced a new twist to its Home Chef Fried Chicken. It now features a double breading and hand-dipping process that includes 18 different spices, enhancing the chicken's flavor and texture. The chicken comes in innovative packaging designed to keep it crispy for longer.

Back in November 2023, Store Brands reported that Kroger decided to update its fried chicken recipe following feedback from customers that was less than flattering. The decision came after surveys revealed that many customers found the previous version of the fried chicken lacking in crispiness and flavor, especially when compared to other grocery stores and fast-food chains.

Mixed Reviews for Kroger's Fried Chicken Options

Kroger offers several fried chicken choices for its shoppers, ranging in style and preparation. The Harris Teeter Ready to Heat Double Fried Chicken currently holds a low one-out-of-five-star rating.

Despite its convenience, one customer criticized it for being "too expensive," pointing out the disparity in quantity and price compared to other options at Kroger.

"Be aware this cold chicken is only four pieces," the customer noted, comparing it unfavorably to another deal. "They charge only $7.99 for eight pieces of hot chicken. Same price, yet four pieces of cold chicken versus eight pieces of hot chicken."

On the other hand, the double-dipped fried Chicken fares slightly better with a 3.14-star rating. One shopper praised it for being a "really good price," suggesting some level of customer satisfaction. However, other voices in the customer community argue that even with a deal, the chicken doesn't live up to expectations.

One such feedback came from a customer who was let down by the quantity and quality of their purchase. "I bought the eight-piece fried chicken, and it turned out to be four pieces of chicken and four chicken fingers," they shared. I was very disappointed."

This indicates that while deals are to be had, the value and satisfaction levels vary greatly among Kroger's fried chicken offerings.
