A popular donut store with more than 100 locations is preparing to close one of its shops soon. Customers were disappointed to learn about the closure from a sorrowful Facebook message.

Tallahassee Duck Donuts Closing Soon

The first and only Duck Donuts location in Tallahassee, Florida, is set to close less than a year after opening. The 1,500-square-foot store, which took over a former dance studio, began serving customers on June 24 last year at Capital Plaza on Thomasville Road.

The shop shared the disappointing news through a Facebook post. "It is with heavy hearts we are announcing the closing of our store. Sunday, April 21, will be our last day open," the post read.

The message also included an invitation to the community: "Please stop in, wish our hard-working staff well, and enjoy our tasty creations while you can. Tallahassee, you have been a joy to serve."

Timothy McGrew, owner of the only Duck Donuts in Tallahassee and a graduate of Florida State University and Army veteran, stated that the shop's earnings were too low to keep it open. This information was reported by the local ABC affiliate WTXL.

McGrew managed the shop with his wife, Renee. They offered a menu that included custom-made donuts, breakfast sandwiches, milkshakes, and coffee, among other items.

Duck Donuts, founded in 2007 by Russ DiGilio in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is known for its friendly staff and quality food. However, after the Tallahassee store closes, the nearest location will be Jacksonville, about 160 miles away.

Numerous fans expressed their regret and appreciation on Facebook in response to the Facebook announcement about the closure of their local Duck Donuts.

One customer commented, "Oh, so sorry. I recently found you and enjoyed the fresh donuts so much! Thank you for the experience. Good luck in the future!" This sentiment was echoed by many who believe the shop serves the best donuts in town. Another fan wrote, "Oh no. I'm so sorry, but thank you for trying. Not only are Duck Donuts the best in town, but the owners and staff are the nicest people. We'll be in before you close."

Another customer shared, "We will be so sad to see you close. You have the best donuts and kindest staff in Tally!"

The closure of Duck Donuts reflects a broader trend among donut shops in Tallahassee. Shipley Do-Nuts on West Tennessee Street and SōDOUGH Baking Co. in Midtown have both shut their doors recently.

However, Donut Kingdom has succeeded since its opening in 2009 and now operates in three locations. Meanwhile, the larger chain Dunkin' continues to expand, boasting twelve locations throughout the city.

About Duck Donuts

According to Duck Donuts' website, it all started on the sandy beaches of the Outer Banks in Duck, North Carolina, where founder Russ DiGilio and his family spent relaxing and fun vacations. DiGilio felt something was missing despite the picturesque setting-a place to get warm, fresh donuts.

This gap led to the creation of Duck Donuts in 2007, the first location aimed at bringing the taste of the Outer Banks to more people.

Duck Donuts' mission is to deliver smiles with warm, delicious donuts made to order for each customer. The company is dedicated to delighting guests by treating them like family, providing a superior product, and genuinely providing exceptional customer service.

Duck Donuts also emphasizes community engagement and a commitment to continual improvement and innovation.
