Former President Donald Trump's announcement on Friday (September 13) that he will keep his shares in his social media company, Truth Social, caused the company's stock price to go up significantly.
The news came just after Trump was involved in an assassination attempt at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Truth Social Stock Soars
Trump said he would not be selling his shares in the company. This announcement made the stock price rise by 25%, and trading had to be stopped for a bit because of the big change.
The rules that stop people from selling shares will end next week, so Trump and others will be able to sell shares if they want to. But experts think that if Trump sells too many shares, the stock price might drop drastically, said CNN.
Right now, Trump owns 57% of the shares in Trump Media, the company that runs Truth Social. His shares were worth about $1.8 billion recently, but the value has gone down a lot over the past few months. This drop is due to various reasons, including how Trump did in recent debates and worries about the company's future.
Trump Assassination Attempt
While all this was happening with the stock, Trump was also in a dangerous situation. On Sunday (September 15), someone fired shots at his golf course. The FBI is looking into it as an attempted assassination.
The police found an AR-style rifle at the scene, and the suspect, a 58-year-old man named Ryan Wesley Routh, was arrested.
According to NBC News, Routh was spotted with a rifle near the golf course, and Secret Service agents responded quickly. He fired at the agents before running away but was caught later because someone took a photo of his car.
Trump was golfing with his friend Steve Witkoff when this happened. He was reported safe, and the Secret Service is handling the investigation. The security for Trump has been tight after a similar incident in July.
The shooting has received a lot of attention from people on both sides of the political world. The White House said they were relieved Trump was not hurt, and leaders from both parties have spoken out against the violence.
