The Flash CW Series: Grant Gustin Says His Stint Glee Helped Him ‘Humble A Little Bit’, Adds It Was A Crucial Part Of His Career

When the Flash CW series debut on October 7, you will see a completely different Grant Gustin. From a "promiscuous" and "scheming" character in hit musical series Glee, Gustin now turns into a crime-fighting superhero. Glee is where the 24-year old actor rose to prominence. He played Sebastian Smythe, a gay transferee who tried to split up one of the favorite couples in the show (Kurt, played by Chris Colfer, and Blaine, played by Darren Criss).

The Flash CW Series trailer:

Gustin has received a lot of hates for his role. Now, in the Flash CW series, he’s getting exactly the opposite and he has Glee to thank for it.

“And you know, in another way, I think Glee also helped to humble me a little bit. It was just such a grand-scale thing, and there were these actors my age who had become big stars on that show, and suddenly I was working with them. So to be such a small part of something that was such a grand-scale show, it kind of humbled me going forward with everything, I think,” Gustin told the Toronto Sun.

He also talked about the attention, negative kind of attention, that he got for portraying Sebastian Smythe.
“I tried to get them past the character - it's not me! - but they were not listening to me at all,” the star of The Flash CW series said.

“It was so difficult, the fans were insane, and it was a real shock for me.

“But looking back on it now, I think it was the best first job I could have had, for so many reasons. I'm actually really glad I had that experience before The Flash. I definitely appreciate it when people enjoy my work and say nice things, but I also can read negative things now and not be bothered. Because I love what I'm doing, and I focus on that.”

The Flash CW Series will premiere on October 7. Aside from Gustin, the show also stars Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, and Tom Cavanagh. It will also feature participation of original the Flash stars John Wesley Shipp and Amanday Pays.
