This role-playing crossover action video game incorporated Disney characters as well as a few Final Fantasy characters into the gameplay. With the first "Kingdom Hearts" adventure directed towards the obvious Disney-directed objective, to rescue the princesses, fans both young and old flocked toward the game.
Apart from its commercial success selling almost 20 million copies worldwide, "Kingdom Hearts" has continued to receive high rankings, on a high 80 percentile according to GameRankings. According to Game Informer, "Kingdom Hearts" is among the "must-play PlayStation 2" games. The franchise also won numerous awards as "Best Crossover Since Capcom vs. SNK", "Best Art Stye/Direction" and with "Kingdom Hearts 2" winning the "Best Sequel" in 2006.
During the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2013 after unending speculation of another sequel, creators finally confirmed the development of "Kingdom Hearts 3". Release date however was not revealed that time.
Upon the "Kingdom Hearts 3" release date, gamers will not only be able to play from current consoles such as PS4 and Xbox, but the game will also be available on PC. Director and designer Tetsuya Nomura explains that the game will be developed via the Unreal Engine 4.
Nomura explains in an interview with Famitsu: "Development is steadily proceeding as planned. Due to the impacts of changing the game engine to Unreal Engine 4, which we did for various reasons, there is some difficulty rendering images. And with the full support of Epic Games, we'll be able to progress smoothly."
"Kingdom Hearts 3" updates reveal not only the release date, but also the characters - both old and new. Apart from the three main characters, Disney superstars Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy are also set to return.
According to reports, "Kingdom Hearts 3" release date has been set on an unofficial and quite vague, 2015.
