Bridget Jones 3 Cast And Script Update: Hugh Grant to not Reprise His Role As Daniel Cleaver

Oct 16, 2014 12:24 PM EDT | By Adelyn Torralba

Cinema Blend has posted a report that Hugh Grant has decided not to reprise his role in the third installment of the "Bridget Jones" movie.

In a Free Radio interview, Hugh Grant was asked if he will once again assume the role of Daniel Cleaver in "Bridget Jones 3." He replied, "I decided not to do it." The two other major casts in the movie have agreed to appear again in "Bridget Jones 3." Renee Zellweger will once again assume her role as Bridget Jones. Colin Firth will return as Mark Darcy. While Colin Firth is a busy actor these days, Zellweger has not made any major film appearance since 2005, in the movie Cinderella Man.

The third Bridget Jones movie is based on the most recent Bridget Jones novel titled "Mad About the Boy". The author of the Bridget Jones novel series is Helen Fielding. Grant added that the planned movie will continue even without him. He also mentioned that the last script he saw about the movie is quite different from the story in the book. In the third Bridget Jones novel, Mark Darcy has died but in the movie adaption, he is alive. This is one possible reason why Grant has decided to leave the movie production for the third "Bridget Jones" film.

It seems that Grant and the scriptwriters could not agree on how to proceed with the story. The last Bridget Jones movie titled "The Edge of Reason" was released in 2004. The first film - the "Bridget Jones Diary" was shown in 2001. The "Bridget Jones Diary" made $71 million in the domestic market while Edge of Reason only made $40 million. Even after Grant left, the movie script has not yet been finished.

It seems that other casts including Zellweger are also not happy about the script. The original title for the script is Bridget Jones' Baby. In order to remedy the situation, film producers have decided to invite Emma Thompson in order to help them rewrite the script as well as calm the casts. A source told the Sun that Thompson's "British charm" can calm the restless cast about the script.
