Chinese Tech Giant Xiaomi Releases Flagship Phone Mi4 Black 4G To China And Hong Kong Markets

Nov 01, 2014 11:15 AM EDT | By Josh Samuel

True to its word, the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has released the black version of their flagship phone Mi4 in China last October 28. It has the same hardware specifications and features, except for its color.

Sadly for those international customers who would like to purchase the black variant of Mi4, they may have to wait for a while until Xiaomi launches it worldwide. Another thing, the brand has decided to make their flagship phone available exclusively to China Mobile only, which means if a user subscribes to other networks, they are not able to purchase the said device. China Mobile is said to use its own TD data network which is the TD-SCDMA for 3G and TD-LTE for 4G. Furthermore, they are only available for use in Mainland China and some parts in HongKong.

This move from China's top smartphone manufacturer was quite unexpected because producing the black Mi4 version exclusively to one carrier, even if it's just temporary, can still play a big difference in terms of their sales. Xiaomi has openly announced that they are expecting to sell 60 million of all their units by the end of 2014. We hope that they will make their Mi4 black version available to other networks in China, as well as internationally.

The black Mi4 4G specifications remain the same which features a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM and 16 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. The device is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz which also comes with an Adreno 330 GPU. On the back of the device is a 13-megapixel camera surrounded by a dual-LED flash while there's an 8-megapixel shooter located on the front. This device ships with a 3080mAh non-removable battery and Android 4.4.3 KitKat with Xiaomi's MIUI OS on top of it.

The Mi4 has been compared with Apple iPhone 6 Plus and HTC Desire Eye recently. Read Mi4 vs iPhone 6 Plus and Mi4 vs HTC to know the diference.
