Sam Raimi Wants To Do Another ‘Spider-Man’ Movie! Director Regrets Messing Up On The Third One

There are several movie versions of "Spider-Man" but probably the most successful is the 2002 film, which starred Tobey Maguire and Kristen Dunst.

The box-office hit was directed by Sam Raimi who also worked on two more sequels.

After that, Sony decided to reboot the popular film franchise with "The Amazing Spider-Man" which featured Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The 2012 film was followed by a sequel in 2014, but the third one didn't push through anymore.

Instead, the producers decided to tie-up with Marvel for a "Spider-Man" reboot. The 2017 film will feature a younger actor in the name of Tom Holland and will be directed by Jon Watts. The 34-year-old filmmaker is known for his work in "Cop Car" and "Clown."

"I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent," Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman said. Would Jon Watts reach the same success as that of Sam Raimi?

Despite two successful "Spider-Man" films, the 56-year-old film director admitted that he failed on the last sequel. He also showed interest in doing another sequel if given another chance. "I messed up on the third one," Raimi told The Week.

"I think they're so complete now, Marvel. They probably don't need me anymore," he said. "But if they needed me? I'd love to. It's great to be wanted." Right now, Sam is working on a Starz TV series entitled "Ash vs. Evil Dead" which is a sequel to the "Evil Dead" trilogy.

The future of "Spider-Man" really depends on the outcome of the reboot so there is still a chance that Sony will get Sam Raimi to work on it again.

The producers are taking a risk on a newbie actor and a young director, but they are confident that Tom Holland and Jon Watts can pull it off.
