Facebook Tool That Helps Users Move On From Failed Relationships Now Being Tested

Nov 20, 2015 10:51 AM EST | By Joanna Garado

It's complicated?

There's a new Facebook tool that re-defines relationships and brea-ups on the social networking site.

Facebook developers perhaps understand that moving on from a recent break-up needs to be gradual (we're looking at you, Harvard-era Mark Zuckerberg), thus, Facebook launched a new tool that allows users to see less posts from their past lovers.

"Starting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended," Facebook Product Manager Kelly Winters wrote on the Facebook blog.

She said that the Facebook tool will appear and become accessible once a Facebook user changes their romantic statuses from being "In A Relationship" to "Single".

"When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools," she said.

The Facebook tool is not so much a harsh move as to unfriending or blocking former partners. Instead, the new feature will allow users choose to see less posts from their exes in their News Feeds.l

It also prevents the user from tagging their former girlfriends/boyfriends in photos or in new messages as well as untag themselves from past posts and photos. The break-up Facebook tool also limits the photos, videos and status updates your ex will see from you.

To keep the bitterness discreet, Facebook assured that formers partners will not be notified of the changes you make using the new tool.

"Your ex will never be notified you're making these changes, either," reported TechCrunch.com.

"That's a big plus given that it's a lot easier to deduce if you've been unfriended or blocked these days, which can take an awkward situation and make it even worse," the site added.

The new Facebook feature is still in the testing phase in the U.S. and on mobile.

"We'll make changes and roll them out further based on people's feedback. All of these tools are optional, and people will be able to access them in the help center anytime," Winters said.
