A popular Chick-fil-A restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, is set to undergo significant changes to speed up its service and reduce crowding. The fast-food outlet is adding a second lane to its drive-thru.
This move aims to deliver orders more quickly to customers and prevent drive-thru lines from spilling onto neighboring properties.
Chick-fil-A and Walgreens Collaborate to Ease Parking Lot Congestion
A new strategy has been adopted in response to the growing issue of lengthy drive-thru queues at Chick-fil-A spilling over into the neighboring Walgreens parking lot. The Chick-fil-A restaurant, located in the Victory Drive Shopping Plaza, alongside Walgreens and Papa John's Pizza, addresses this concern head-on.
Ann Collins, the site manager of Chick-fil-A, expressed optimism about the new development. "The introduction of a second lane will grant us the much-needed space to alleviate some of these issues," she stated.
This proactive measure was met with unanimous approval from the Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Planning Commission on Tuesday, as reported by Savannah Now.
This decision underscores the commitment of local businesses and authorities to maintain order and efficiency in busy commercial areas.
The neighboring Walgreens has strongly supported Chick-fil-A's new development plan, including adding an extra drive-thru lane. This approval is part of Chick-fil-A's site development application, indicating a collaborative effort to improve local traffic management.
The expansion, featuring an additional lane at Chick-fil-A, is set to accommodate nine more cars, effectively reducing the overflow into the Walgreens parking area during busy hours. This strategic move aims to streamline the flow of vehicles, especially during peak times.
Harold Yellin, the attorney representing Chick-fil-A, highlighted the significance of this development. "With this change, those nine cars that usually extend into the Walgreens lot will now be efficiently managed within our property.
This will ensure a smoother experience for everyone involved," Yellin explained. This initiative reflects a concerted effort to minimize disruptions and enhance customer service in the area.

Tennessee Town Rejects Chick-fil-A's 'Mega' Restaurant Proposal
The U.S. Sun recently covered a story where a small town in Tennessee voted against establishing a 'mega' Chick-fil-A restaurant. Concerns about potential traffic issues largely influenced the decision.
As reported by Fox Business, Jennifer Casey, the town's public information officer, indicated that the proposed larger location of Chick-fil-A did not align with the town's needs. The fast-food giant had plans for a 6,100-square-foot restaurant, which included a 522-square-foot area for outdoor seating and a 300-square-foot playground.
Additionally, the plan featured an employee meeting room and dual drive-thru lanes capable of accommodating up to 43 cars.
Despite this setback, Jaime Groce, the town planner, recognized Chick-fil-A's value as a community investor. "Chick-fil-A is a respected entity, and we look forward to their continued involvement in our community," Groce stated.
He also outlined the next steps for Chick-fil-A, which involve submitting a new site plan that adheres to all town regulations. This revised plan would undergo a thorough review process involving staff, the Planning Commission, the Design Review Commission, and ultimately, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
