Taco Bell lovers were upset when the chain stopped selling a huge taco they loved. But, thanks to a secret among employees, there's still a way to enjoy it.

The Double Decker Taco, first sold briefly in 1995, became a regular menu item 11 years later. It stayed popular until 2019 when Taco Bell removed it from its menu.

The Double Decker Taco's Comeback

The Double Decker Taco, a combination of a crunchy taco and refried beans wrapped in a soft tortilla with more beans, was always a favorite.

Fans were thrilled when Taco Bell brought it back in December for less than $3.

But the excitement turned to disappointment when people learned the Double Decker was only back for the Holiday season.

Under the news of its short comeback, many customers asked Taco Bell to keep it on the menu forever. They shared how they had to change their orders just to recreate it themselves.

Taco Bell fans couldn't hide their excitement when they learned the beloved Double Decker Taco was returning. One person pointed out, "Taco Bell finally remembered they've always had what they needed to bring this back."

Another customer joked about their workaround to recreate the menu favorite, saying, "So I can stop buying a soft taco with beans only and a hard shell separately???"

A longtime fan shared their connection, "I've been making this myself, lol - it's been my favorite since I first tried it as a taste tester in Tustin."

Echoing the sentiment for permanence, a third customer urged, "YOU HAVE ALL THE INGREDIENTS ON HAND ALREADY JUST KEEP IT."

Fans are thrilled about the return but are also making a strong plea for Taco Bell to keep the Double Decker Taco on the menu for good.

Secret Ritual Keeps Taco Alive

Even though a special Taco Bell favorite was taken off the menu, it's never really disappeared, a social media user explained. On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, someone shared that Taco Bell's Double Decker Taco continues to be made in secret.

"I knew Taco Bell employees who kept making these. They even showed new workers how to do it," the user revealed. This behind-the-scenes tradition has kept the beloved item alive among fans and staff. "It's like a secret ritual," they added.

While customers continue to ask for the Double Decker Taco to come back for good, Taco Bell is introducing new items in 2024. Among these is the Cheesy Chicken Crispanada, first tested in Knoxville, Tennessee, last year and now available nationwide.

In its press release, Taco Bell announced its newest menu item: the Cheesy Chicken Crispanada. This item is described as a blend of melted cheese, juicy chicken, and bright Mexican spices, all wrapped in a crispy shell.

This new dish draws inspiration from the traditional empanada. It is designed to be easy to eat on the go, making it an excellent option for people looking for a tasty snack that's also convenient.

Taco Bell says it's ideal for anyone who loves trying new foods with a different flavor.
