Owners of Samsung Galaxy S5 can now upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop using a custom firmware called CLINCH ROM.

The flagship phone from Samsung is currently running on Android 4.4.2 during its launched on April 2014 and is officially available for an Android 5.0 Lollipop update according to GSM Arena.

However, Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who wish to upgrade the OS via a custom firmware can do so using CLINCH ROM.

"This new ROM is based on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.0 Lollipop and comes with performance tweaks, new customisation features and many more improvements to enhance user-experience," IBTimes reported.

However it should be noted that since the firmware is unofficial, users should install it cautiously to avoid unnecessary loss of data and to experience the maximum potential of Android 5.0 Lollipop update via CLINCH ROM.

The comprehensive installation guide on Samsung's flagship smartphone could be seen here.

Prior to installation owners of Samsung Galaxy S5 should keep in mind that there are prerequisites before installing Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

1. The device's model number must be SM-G900F. There is no way that CLINCH ROM would work if the Samsung Galaxy S5 device is not bearing the specific model.

In order to verify the model go to Settings > About Phone > Model Number.

2. If the smartphone passed the first requirement, check the battery life, it should be 80 percent and above before continuing with the installation. This is a must to avoid power interruption while the update is in process.

3. Make sure to install the Samsung Galaxy S5's USB drivers to the PC. This step will helo the device to easily connect with the computer during installation.

4. While Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone's are available for Android 5.0 Lollipop update using CLINCH ROM, all important data must be backed up using ClockWorkMod or TWRP. The process might erase all the information in the memory.

5. Make sure that the USB Debugging Mode is turned on prior to installation. Got to Settings > Developer Options.
