The Harvard Business Review has published a new report. The report  praises the adoption of new technologies such as cloud computing as the surest and fastest way of achieving success for a business. The report was partly sponsored by Verizon.

HBR conducted a survey. The survey covered 672 business leaders and more than half of them believe that IT is a kind of investment that drives not just growth but innovation as well. Those surveyed who have adopted new technologies quite early say that it has made a strong impact on their business.

The report was entitled "The Digital Dividend" and it has pushed forward of the first-mover advantage. Being a first-mover means being someone who takes advantage of a new innovation in technology early. Some see it as a high-risk move, which can have a high pay-off. Companies in the past gambled on new technologies and the gamble paid off. The same thing could be said of companies now that are taking advantage of the cloud computing technology.

The report also warned that the resistance to change within an organization can prevent the adoption of new technologies. There are many factors that can cause resistance to change.

More than 30% of the respondents in the survey said that they prefer to wait on the sidelines. They are willing to let others try out the new technology first and when the results are proven then they jump in and use the technology. They might not reap the full benefits of the new technology but they are also exposing themselves to a lot less stress than those who are early adapters. There are those who say that waiting for a better version of a technology or a product is the smart step to take as compared to jumping and using an untested technology.
