Release Date For 'God Of War 4' Will Not Be Until 2018? 'GOW 3' Remastered Version A Testing Ground For The Sequel's Graphics?

While fans are expecting a "God of War 4" release date happening next year following Sony's announcement that a "GOW 3" remastered version will be available for PS4, it's most likely not going to happen.

Cross Map speculated that the release of the fourth installment to the hit game could happen between 2017 and 2018.

Head writer Cory Barlog explained to PlayStation Blog that the team is trying to focus on the remastered version of "God of War 3," which will hit shelves on July 14.

In addition, the remastered version will somehow work as a testing ground for the upcoming "God of War 4" come its release date.

"Imagine if a game like that [God of War 3] came out on PS4, right," Barlog explained. "Well, thanks to the fine folks at SCEA (or Santa Monica Studio) we do not have to imagine anymore because God of War III Remastered is here!"

Barlog also assured fans that the upcoming "God of War 3" remastered version will give a better gaming experience, thus it can invite non-players to try out and enjoy the game.

"Remasters often help us open the door to new players who perhaps did not play 'God of War 3' five years ago, but who we can bring it to on the PlayStation 4," he said in the post. "People often forget, the more players we can bring into a franchise, the better for everyone. At Santa Monica Studio, we'd like as many PlayStation fans to experience our games as possible, from generation to generation."

And while fans are still waiting for an official "God of War 4" release date announcement, Movie Pilot claimed that a new mythological character could be introduced in the game, thus fueling speculations that Kratos would no longer appear in the fourth installment of the game.
