While fans are waiting for the official announcement of "Rockf Band 4" PS4 release date, Mad Catz announced that the musical-instrument themed game will be coming out this year.

While the publication did not mention the exact date, it added that old songs from the previous games will be availble for the upcoming one.

"Due for release later this year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, 'Rock Band 4' is going to BLOW YOU AWAY," it said on its statement.

"A love-letter to fans of the franchise, 'Rock Band 4' is set to take music gaming to the next level! In addition to a killer on-disc soundtrack, 'Rock Band 4' will support vast numbers of tracks released since the 2007 launch of the original 'Rock Band.' Harmonix is confident that day one, 'Rock Band 4' will deliver the most music, period!"

In addition, the spokesperson of Mad Catz, Alex Verrey said that they will be responsible for the game's distribution and promotion while, Harmonix will take charge on the sales and supervision of DLC.

"Co-publishing the game allows us to work closer than ever before with Harmonix, delivering a seamless experience from game through hardware and ensuring that we focus on the needs of the gamer first and foremost," wrote Verrey (viaEurogamer).

Harmonix is currently working on new devices to be sold together with "Rock Band 4," vg 247 claimed, however the old plastic instruments used with previous games will still be available for use with the new game.

And while the "Rock Band 4" release date is highly anticipated, Harmonix COO Alex Rigopulos explained that they will no longer release yearly versions of the game, instead modifications will be made available through upgrade.

"Going forward, our goal is to view [Rock Band 4] as more of a live service where we can gradually and incrementally append new functionality to the core experience rather than having $60 annual title updates," Rigopulos told IGN. "You shouldn't expect a Rock Band 5 in 2016."

Project manager Eric Pope on the other hand, promises a ground breaking gaming experience for musically inclined fans as "Rock Band 4" will be equipt with 1080p resolution at 60 fps to provide better graphics and audio quality.

In an interview with We Got This Covered, he teased fans about the "more realistic" game.

"It's going to look 'next-gen' with more realistic lighting, character models, and animation," Pope said.

Furthermore, Pope teased fans that the new game will now feature online multiplayer battle from console users internationally.

"What, to me, is more exciting is the online infrastructure of the consoles," he explained. "It will open a lot [of] opportunities for us to support the game in more reactive, timely ways."
