'Gangnam Style' Most Watched Video Ever on YouTube

"Gangnam Style", the popular music video from South Korean pop singer Psy, has broken another record by becoming the most-watched YouTube video in history, with over 1 billion views on the Google-owned video website.

Justin Bieber's video for "Baby" held the previous YouTube record at more than 800 million views which Psy surpassed a month ago.

As of Friday evening, the video had notched almost 400,000 views above that 10-figure threshold. When asked by MTV how he felt about reaching this YouTube milestone, he was completely overjoyed with the news.

"I can't compare it to anything else!" he laughed. "In 2012, I experienced so many things; it's been a tremendous year, but to accomplish this, it's really something that stands out. Because it all began with YouTube, and to have [the video] reach 1 billion views ... I don't think even I can break that record!"

"Honestly, when I made this video I didn't even expect 1 million views, because this is off my sixth album in Korea, so I just hoped it would be huge there," he said. "I didn't even think about any other countries; I just did my job and waited and watched. And, you know, today, I'm still wondering and analyzing its success. Because I've done this thing many times, this dance, this album, this video ... this one just became something else entirely."

Psy has raked in a reported $7.9 million for "Gangnam Style" in the last few months alone.

"PSY's success is a great testament to the universal appeal of catchy music-- and er, great equine dance moves," YouTube said in a statement. "In the past, music distribution was mostly regional. It was more difficult to learn about great artists from around the world. But with a global platform at their fingertips, people are now discovering and sharing amazing music from all over the planet, by artists like Brazilian Michel Teló and Belgian-Australian Gotye."
