Project Morpheus Virtual Reality Headset Release: Technology For Sony PlayStation 4 Due Out at Christmas Time

Sony's PlayStation 4 game console could be used with a virtual reality headset named Project Morpheus around Christmas The Daily Mirror reported Wednesday.

The technology allows gamers to be in the center of competition when competing during a video a game. The frame has big round covers, a nine inch 1080 p LCD screen, and 90 degrees of field vision.

Built in sensors track movement, so when the player's head moves, the image of the virtual reality world also shifts to give the feeling being in the game.

Shuhei Yoshida president of Sony has contemplated about the technology for quite some time.

"I have long dreamed about virtual reality and the possibilities it brings in regards to game development," Yoshida said in a statement The Mirror reported.

"This new technology will deliver a sense of presence, where you as the player actually feel like you're inside the game and your emotions feel that much more real," Yoshida said in the statement.

The device is expected to positively impact everyday life.

"Allowing people to experience what it's like to be somewhere else will impact many aspects of life," Richard Marks, one of the makers of the device told The Mirror.

"VR is going to be pervasive. It could even be used to pick out a hotel room for your next trip by visiting a virtual version of that room.

The game console has eight x86 CPU-codes titled Jaguar, and is manufactured from Advanced Micro Devices according to Network World. It also comes equipped with upgraded graphics co-processors capable of handling 1.84 teraflops of performance according to information from Tech Hive.

The machine has 500 gigabyte hard drive that can play blu-ray DVDs. There are also eight gigabytes of GDDR5 memory or quick network speed random access memory found in graphics cards. Game makers put 176 gigabytes of network speed a second on the machine since they wanted the computer to run faster.

Sony's previous game console models are the PSone, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 in various sizes. There is also the Playstation Vita, which users can hold by hand.
