Laverne Cox is another breakout star from the hit series "Orange is the New Black." She plays the role of Sophia Burset. She's a proud advocate of LGBTQ. She's also the first open transgender who was nominated for the Emmy's.

Cox is originally from Alabama and she's known from an early age that she's gay. She was 11 years old when she first attempted suicide because she noticed that she's developing feelings for one of her male classmate. She was bullied for not acting the way the society dictates a male should act.

Aside from working in the hit series "Orange is the New Black," Cox often speaks about transgender rights and she writes about current update that affect the transgender community as a whole. She uses the popularity of the series "Orange is the New Black" as a platform to educate people about transgender.

Cox is set to speak at the Colorado State University's Lory Student Center Theater on October 23, 2014. In the event, she will talk about her personal experience as a transgender woman and why it is important for the society to broaden their minds about sexuality. She will stress that it's important to be true to oneself rather than living a life that is based on the standards set by the society.

The event is being hosted by Colorado State University's Ram Events and the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Queer Questioning & Ally (GLBTQQA) Resource Center.

This engagement is not a first for Cox. She has spoken at UNL were she wrote her speech titled "Ain't I a Woman." Cox said, "Before I got anything done, I had so many preconceptions about who transgender people were. But when I got to know them as people, all those preconceptions melted away."

"I think if we get to know people as people, then all of our misconceptions that we may have had about them will melt away," she added.
