Coffee fans rejoice! Starbucks Corporation is planning on giving away Starbucks for life to 10 lucky customers in hopes of rescuing declining sales this coming holiday season.
The contest is actually not "for life"-but if you win, you get a free drink or food item every day for thirty years.
The contest is one of the initiatives of the company to boost sales this holiday season, and primarily an effort of the Seattle-based company to promote its new mobile payment system where customers can make purchases as well as pre-order using their smartphones as well as their Starbucks Gift Card.
"When we finished last year's Christmas we immediately began the effort to transform and reimagine this year's holiday," CEO Howard Schultz said in an interview with Market Watch.
"Starbucks has a unique giftable item. We sold over one billion gift cards last holiday season. Every time you buy or gift a Starbucks card, embedded in it is an opportunity for 10 people in North America to win Starbucks for life," the CEO added.
When approached by different celebrities and other CEOs regarding the enticing idea, Starbucks Chief executive officer Howard Schultz was reportedly equally thrilled that the concept is creating a buzz.
"We know intrinsically that this will have broad-based excitement and will drive incremental traffic into our stores. That's what every retailer has to accomplish," the CEO exclaimed.
Similarly, Starbucks EVP recognized that the concept is one new to the company.
"What could be bigger this holiday than winning Starbucks for Life? This is the first time we have ever offered customers something of this magnitude and what better way than to anchor it with our renowned Starbucks Card program," Sharon Rostein, Starbucks Executive Vice President and Global Chief marketing Officer stated.
"This giveaway is poised to bring great excitement and fun to our customers during this special time of the year," she added.
Customers who want to win can swipe their Starbucks gift card or pay using their smartphones starting on December 2 until Christmas.
