The Male Birth Control Is On Its Way! But Is There A More Natural Alternative?

Oct 02, 2015 09:52 PM EDT | By Pam Amantiad

The Osaka University's Research Institute for Microbial Diseases recently announced a study that could help hasten production for a non-hormonal male birth control.

"It is important that we find an effective and reversible contraceptive option to allow men more control over their own reproductive futures," the lead researcher, Masahito Ikawa, reportedly told US News, adding that the said study "may be a key step to giving men that control."

The experiment was reportedly successful in temporarily rendering rats infertile by "blocking a specific protein that is also present in human sperm."

Calcineurin is said to play "an important role in male fertility." However, Ikawa's team still hasn't discovered which form of the protein affects fertility.

If successful, the study could hasten the creation of non-hormonal male birth control for men to use without side affects. Nevertheless, the research might still take years to perfect.

According to Superfood Profiles, however, guys don't really have to wait for the said pill to take control of their reproductive health. Nature supposedly has its own offering to not get someone pregnant while avoiding a decrease in libido, testosterone problems, and other side effects of a synthetic drug.

The site pointed out that people from India and certain parts of Southeast Asia used papaya seeds as a natural kind of birth control.

Women supposedly use unripe green papayas to avoid getting pregnant, as well as an "abortifacient when applied directly to the uterus." Men, on the other hand, use papaya seeds as a "long-term natural birth control method."

"The equivalent of around a teaspoon is suggested daily and is taken for around three months to be fully effective," the article said. "The effect is then said to last for several months after treatment is stopped, to be completely reversible in the long-term and with no observed negative effects on libido during treatment."

For people looking for effective male birth control without the hormonal side effects, papaya seeds might just be a possible natural option.
