Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor Corp intends to roll out towards the end of the year the latest model of its hybrid car Prius, even as demand for environment-friendly vehicles has declined due to falling fuel prices, Reuters reported.
The fallout from the deadly passenger-side airbags made by Takata Corp. again impacted Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp and Nissa Motor Co as the two increased the combined number of vehicles to be recalled around the world by 3 million more.
Toyota Motor Corp. announced a recall of 6.39 million vehicles around the world on Wednesday due to issues involving almost 30 models in the U.S., Japan, Europe and other countries. This is the second-biggest recall the automaker has ever issued.
Toyota Motor Corp. will pay $1.2 billion in a settlement with the U.S. government, who filed a criminal charge claiming the company defrauded customers by issuing false statements about safety issues in Toyota and Lexus vehicles. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the deal on Wednesday.
