Barbie Jeep For Toddlers Becomes College Student’s Main Use Of Transportation

Texas State University student Tara Monroe lost the right to drive a real vehicle after her driver’s license was suspended for DWI, according to the NY Daily News.

Instead of riding a bike around campus like most of her peers, Monroe decided to purchase a Barbie Jeep, which is usually occupied by toddlers, to get around, according to The Huffington Post.

The name of the Barbie Jeep is Charlene after the toddler that used to drive the pink vehicle around before it was sold on Craigslist for $60.

“When we drove up to buy it, Charlene asked where the little one was to test drive it, to which I replied, 'I am the little one,'" explained Monroe.

Although purchasing Charlene may seem odd to most, for Monroe, it was “the best decision I’ve made in college, yet.” The industrial engineering junior actually found it surprising when a photo of her driving around in the Barbie Jeep went viral.

“Most people don’t find the things me and my friends do very funny, just immature, so I didn’t expect to get this big of a reaction,” the 20-year-old told the San Antonio Express-News.

“People who don’t know me are shocked, but my friends weren’t even surprised because I do stuff like this all the time.”

Carpooling is a problem when it comes to Charlene as the vehicle reportedly only goes 5 mph.

“It goes pretty fast when it’s just me, so I usually make them [her friends] walk behind me like parents taking their kid out to play,” explained Monroe.
