With all the Ray Rice news circulating around, it is automatic that everyone will have their opinion. Some say the Baltimore Ravens deserve everything he's getting right now while others think it was too harsh. Rice, 27, was suspended indefinitely by the NFL following the release of a video wherein he was seen punching and knocking out his girlfriend, Janay Palmer, at Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This domestic violence case of Rice is one of the most talked about controversies over the past weeks.
If there's one person that knows where Ray Rice is coming from, that is Chris Brown. Back in February 2009, the 25-year old record artist was charged with felony assault and making criminal threats for beating his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. Brown was cursed and scrutinized for his actions which he already paid for. On August of the same year, he was sentenced to five years of probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and six months of community service. These are the reasons why each Ray Rice news stings on him.
Speaking to MTV News, Chris Brown weighed in on the situation that Ray Rice is going through right now.
"I think it’s all about the choices you make," the singer tells reporter Sway Calloway.
"With me, I deal with a lot of anger issues from my past – not knowing how to express myself verbally and, at the same time, not knowing how to cope with my emotions and deal with them and understand what they are."
Since committing domestic violence, Brown has been undergoing bi-weekly therapy sessions to control his emotions.
"'This is how you should react,’ or 'it’s good to feel this way because feelings, emotions, and energy are supposed to come and go,'" he says, channeling the advice of his therapists. "It’s not supposed to stay there; you’re not supposed to keep it inside because it’ll bottle up and you’ll become a monster.'"
To Ray Rice and other people on the same situation wanting to turn things around, here is his advice.
"To Ray, or anybody else — because I’m not better than the next man — I can just say I’ve been down that road," he says. "I deal with situations and I’ve made my mistakes too, but it’s all about how you push forward and how you control yourself."
