The FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar is still eight years. You can say that it is pretty far, right? However, with this gigantic event, eight years is just enough. Now, with the latest development in the organization of the World Cup, organizers might be forced to cram to pull off the show. If what this person says is true, FIFA will go back to start, and things could get ugly.
A high-ranking FIFA official has predicted that the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar might not happen. Not only because officials from the host country are in the middle of a corruption investigation but also because of the weather conditions.
"I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar," said FIFA Executive Committee member Theo Zwanziger. "Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions."
Qatar insisted that they are capable hosts because of the cooling technology that they will use in stadiums, training grounds, and fan zones. However, for Zwanziger, that won’t be enough.
"They may be able to cool the stadiums but a World Cup does not take place only there," Zwanziger said.
"Fans from around the world will be coming and traveling in this heat and the first life-threatening case will trigger an investigation by a state prosecutor.
"That is not something that FIFA Exco members want to answer for."
For Qatar FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer, Zwanziger is just expressing a personal opinion on the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar preparations. Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy also threw their reaction on the comments made by the German official, insisting that the event will definitely take place in the Middle East eight years from today.
Executive director of communications and marketing Nasser Al Khater said:
“Qatar will host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, despite comments of FIFA Executive Committee member Dr. Zwanziger, which reflect his personal opinion and not that of FIFA. The only question now is WHEN, not IF.
Summer or winter, we will be ready. We have proven that a FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar in the summer is possible with state-of-the-art cooling technology. We have demonstrated that our cooling works in outdoor areas beyond stadiums. This summer we welcomed fans in Doha to an open-air Brazil 2014 Fan Zone with temperatures cooled to a comfortable 22 degrees Celsius.”
